Overview

PURPOSE OF JOB POSITION:

Activity Staff reports to the Activity Director.  This individual organizes, leads and participates in a wide variety of resident activities on a daily basis.  Additionally, Activity Staff will complete resident assessments and documentation on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the review and updating of departmental job descriptions at least annually
  • Assume the authority, responsibility, and accountability of direction the recreation department
  • Maintain a productive working relationship with the medical profession and other health related facilities and organizations
  • Review and evaluate the department's work force and make recommendations to the Administrator
  • Coordinate activities with other departments as necessary
  • Work with the facilit's consultants as necessary and implement recommended changes as required
  • Delegate authority, responsibility, and accountability to other responsible department personnel
  • Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Administrator concerning the operation of the recreation department
  • Assist in standardizing the methods in which work will be accomplished
  • Interpret the department's policies and procedures to employees, residents, visitors, government agencies, ect.
  • Keep abreast of economic conditions/situations and recommend to the Administrator adjustments in recreation programs that assure the continued ability to provide daily activites
  • Review and develop a plan of correction for activity deficiencies noted during survey inspections and provide a written copy of such report to the Administrator.
  • assist in the Infection Control Nurse in identifying, evaluation, and classifying routine and job related activity functions to ensure that tasks involving potential exposure to blood/body fluids are properly identified and recorded
  • Review departmental complaints and grievances from personnel and make written reports to the Administrator of actions(s) taken. Follow facility's established procedures
  • Assist the CQI Committee in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies
  • Develop, implement, and maintain an ongoing quality assurance program for the recreation department
  • Participate in facility surveys (inspections made by authoriezed government agencies
  • Ensure that all charted activity progress notes are informative and descriptive of the services provided and of the resident's response to the service
  • Maintain a reference library of written material, laws, ect., necessary for complying with current standards and regualtions, and taht will provide assistance in maintaining a quality activity program.
  • Involve the resident/family in planning objectives and goals for the resident.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Experience and passion for working in geriatric settings, such as nursing homes or senior centers
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Physically able to perform duties such as standing for long periods, squatting, bending and pushing activity carts
  • Proficient in the use of various computer programs
  • High school diploma or higher level of education
