Overview

The Pediatric Speech Language Pathologist will apply expert skills and operational knowledge in the delivery of therapy services for pediatric patients and education for their families/caregivers.  Primary responsibilities include: meeting or exceeding customer expectations through the delivery of evidence-based, patient-centered care and effective treatment plans, accurate and timely documentation and demonstrating Therapy Specialists Mission and Values.

Responsibilities

    • Meets the patient’s goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results.
    • Develops treatment plan and provides patient treatment, consistent with patient need and reimbursement level for best functional outcome for patient.
    • Evaluates results of speech language pathology services by observing, noting and evaluating patient’s progress, recommending and implementing adjustments and modifications, based on clinical judgement.
    • Assures continuation of therapeutic plan by designing and instructing patients, families and caregivers in home exercise programs; recommending and/or providing assistive equipment.
    • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
    • Protects patients and colleagues by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
    • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending education workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal/professional networks; participating in professional societies.
    • Complies with federal, state and local legal and certification requirements by studying existing and new legislation.
    • Completes written documentation including evaluations, daily notes, physician progress notes, weekly summaries, discharge summaries, monthly reports as required to meet licensing, certification, regulatory and reimbursement requirements.

    • Assures all physician communication including initial evaluations and progress summaries are accurate and timely.
    • Maintains patient confidence by keeping information confidential.
    • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in clinical skills in chosen field in evaluation and treatment
  • Ability to supervise and direct therapy assistants, aides and/or student interns
  • Actively involved in professional development
  • Ability to independently identify problems and initiate appropriate actions
  • Ability to clearly express self in written form for documentation
  • Ability to communicate clearly to staff, patient, families, physicians, case managers, and payors
  • Ability to remain calm and professional when patients, family and/or staff are angry/frustrated
  • Knowledge of patient rights and confidentiality
  • Knowledge of reimbursement/payor source issues – Worker’s Compensation, Medicare, Managed Care
