Provides instruction for Visually Impaired students by developing, selecting and modifying instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of students utilizing Braille, large print and technological devices. Nature of work includes supervising students in a variety of school-related settings; keeps attendance and grade records, and conferring with parents, students and staff regarding progress/problems. Frequent travel is required between multiple schools.
Develops, organizes, and delivers lesson plans, assignments, and instructional materials for students with visual impairments, including support for those in mainstream classrooms. Contributes to curriculum design, pilots new teaching materials, creates staff awareness/orientation programs, and coordinates inter- and intra-agency support for students and families.
Applies a variety of teaching strategies to effectively present content.
Fosters a classroom environment that supports intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth.
Maintains classroom discipline to promote effective learning.
Communicates with parents and students regarding academic progress or concerns and participates in conferences as needed.
Conducts functional vision and learning media assessments.
Reviews and interprets eye medical reports to guide educational planning.
Participates actively in staff and faculty meetings, providing input on instructional goals, methods, and IEP development.
Performs additional duties as assigned within the same or lower classification.
